Nitrous Oxide or “Laughing Gas”

Dentistry can sometimes be difficult for adults, so it is understandable that a young child may experience some anxiety while getting their teeth fixed! In order to achieve our goal of providing the safest dental care possible for your child, our doctors may recommend using nitrous oxide to reduce their anxiety and make dental treatment more comfortable.

Your child breathes nitrous oxide through a mask placed on their nose. They are breathing a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen throughout treatment. After treatment is completed, they are breathing oxygen and the effects of nitrous oxide will disappear.

Nitrous oxide is not meant to put your child to sleep, they are awake during their dental treatment. It is a very safe method of making something difficult (fixing cavities) a little easier for your child! We want them to continue to love going to dentist!
